Gingrich won over a lot more voters in South Carolina by telling it like it is and speaking the truth against CNN and not candy coating it. He called them “despicable” as he pointed his finger and spoke his mind. In this day and age people respect straightforward talk and saying it like it is. So that is why Newt was so well received.
After his ex wife Marianne went on camera a day earlier to say how he cheated on her and wanted an open marriage, CNN’s first question to him was about her allegations. Gingrich chastised CNN Chief National Correspondent John King for asking that as a first question in a Presidential debate . Hegot even angrier when King tried to pawn off the reporting of the story on another network.
His response elicited loud applause from the audience as they showed their disapproval of CNN’s questioning. If you would ask most ex spouses or ex boyfriends and girlfriends about a sour relationship very few would have good things to say. So one cannot take as gospel what either side says. It takes two to have a relationship and obviously something went terribly wrong in their communication and in their relationship.
Gingrich denied the allegations and reported that his daughters contacted ABC to pull the story. But the low point was when King tried to cover his back andf protect his network by saying that they werent the ones to first report the story.
The fact that they are perpetuating the story by asking the question says it all . The public is not dumb and not buying the “blame game” so they look clean.Newt in essence busted them and called them out and people loved it!
Relationships fail as people change and communication disintegrates. The heartbreak can be unbearable- worse than any possible physical pain. No one Knows what happened in Newt’s and Marianne’s relationship except them. They obviously have different perspectives . With time their perceptions and perspectives often take on a whole new meaning, especially if one of the parties has done better than the other, healthwise, careerwise, finacialLy or socially.
On the other hand we as voters do have a right to know all sides (the good and the bad) of our candidates and give the ma chance to adresss allegations to see if they are tellingt he truth or not.
In my view, Gingrich did not show any signals of deception when he denied the allegations made by his ex wife, He looked confident and straightforward as he confidently denied what was said about him. There was no leakage of deceptive tells and he spoke in a voice indicative of someone telling the truth. He did not deny that he had an affair when he initially listened to the question as she shook his head yes in agreement as John King made a statement about this before asking his question. Gingrich’s body language confirmed that he did indeed have an affair and was not denying it. But he was denying the allegations about an open marriage.

I know you won’t post these comments, as you never post any of mine, but it’s pathetic how whenever it’s a Republican you find a way to support their views, even when it’s despicable behavior, such as leaving a wife newly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, or worse, breast cancer, as he did his first wife. I like the leader of my country to be one who is faithful, and not hypocritical in calling for moral leaders while himself committing immoral actions. Who cares if his body language was telling the truth for one question in a “debate”, his actual actions are more telling as to his persona. Yuck.
Christine I am non partisan. I just called it as I saw it in the video. I had no idea he had a third wife whom he left when she had breast cancer until you just pointed it out. If that is the case and he left this wife for MS as you say then YES indeed he is unconscionable. I do care of his body language was telling the truth as that is what I do and he was telling the truth in that particular instance. He also did not deny that he had an affair like other candidates and even Presidents have done in the past. But if what you say is true than you are correct in that he has a low moral compass and should not be a leader Having said that I do applaude that he spoke out against the questioning and refused to play the shift the blame game.
Newt is a creep, always has been always will be. He displayed typical narcissistic behavior by pretending to be very mad, trying to deflect the question and of course pointing the finger elsewhere. ( Newt – you failed. ) He has no moral compass and neither does his current wife. The eyes are the window of your soul; his are dark and empty. His facial expressions and body language exhibit much condicending negativity. (if there is such a thing) IMHO he is a liar and a fraud.
Thanks for your response. I know that Newt made a splash with his response, I’m sure it was well rehearsed with his team, as anyone on that dias would do. To deflect the moderator’s question is one thing, however if the question were aimed at one of the other “contestants”, I’m sure he would not have had any issue with it. It’s a true shame that our leaders these days are elected on the basis of sound bites and “spin”, rather than on their true convictions and ideas. And it’s a shame the campaigns need to “go ugly”. But unless we all change as humans, I think it will continue this way.
..I always gp back to Clinton.
What a hound dog… but what a great president
This man thinks he is untouchable .
He could be related to Cindy Anthony .
